Citation text line | OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1):Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were not protected from the hazard of high heat while performing jobs duties: a: On or about August 15, 2023, employees were exposed to the hazard of high heat from direct sunlight during the performance of their job duties, including lifting concrete masonry unit walls for 8-hours from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. The calculated Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) ranged from 28.8�C to 41.2 �C (83.8�F to 106.1�F) while working outdoors performing moderate to heavy manual labor and wearing short sleeves and pants. Such exposures are likely to lead to the development of serious heat-related illnesses such as, but not limited to, heat cramps, heat stress, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. An employee exhibited symptoms of heat related illness such as cramps. The employee was admitted to the hospital for one night and was diagnosed with acute kidney injury, myalgia, hematuria, and moderate dehydration. |
