THESE ACTIVITIES ARE IN DIRECT ALIGNMENT WITH CFPCG PROGRAM GOALS. IN SPITE OF THE FACT THAT PALM BEACH COUNTY IS THE WEALTHIEST COUNTY IN FLORIDA AND IS THE STATE'S AGRICULTURAL LEADER, MORE THAN 50,000 PALM BEACH COUNTY CHILDREN DO NOT HAVE THEIR BASIC FOOD NEEDS MET. MANY OF THESE CHILDREN IN NEED LIVE IN THE CENTRAL AND WEST AGRICULTURAL PORTIONS OF THE COUNTY KNOWN AS THE GLADES: BELLE GLADE, PAHOKEE, CANAL POINT, AND SOUTH BAY. ADDITIONAL NEIGHBORHOODS OF CONCENTRATED NEED HAVE ARISEN IN THE SERVICE CORRIDOR WEST OF I-95, PARTICULARLY THE CITY OF WEST PALM BEACH AND THE TOWN OF RIVIERA BEACH. THESE COMMUNITIES COMPRISE THE WORK FORCE SUPPORTING THE LUXURY HOTELS, RESTAURANTS, RESORTS, AND RESIDENTIAL ENCLAVES CLUSTERED ALONG THE ATLANTIC SHORE--THE GOLD COAST.THIS PROJECT BRINGS COMMUNITY-BUILDING RELIEF TO THESE OPPORTUNITY ZONE LOCATIONS. RECOGNIZING THE NEED FOR A COUNTY-WIDE SOLUTION TO THIS CRITICAL PROBLEM, UNITED WAY OF PALM BEACH COUNTY BROUGHT TOGETHER STAKEHOLDERS AND IN 2015 PUBLISHED THE PALM BEACH COUNTY HUNGER RELIEF PLAN. THE FLIPANY COMMUNITY FOOD PROJECT IS ALIGNED WITH THE GOALS OF THIS PLAN AND COORDINATES WITH THE CURRENT ACTIVITIES OF THE HUNGER RELIEF WORK GROUPS. THIS PROJECT SUPPORTS CAPACITY-BUILDING FOR AT LEAST THIRTY CHILDCARE SITES TO QUALIFY FOR FOOD SITE LICENSING AND SUBSEQUENT FLIPANY FOOD SPONSORSHIP. THIS WORK ENSURES CHILDREN IN THESE COMMUNITIES WILL RECEIVE NUTRITIOUS MEALS YEAR-ROUND FOR MANY YEARS TO COME.THE PROPOSED PROJECT ENCOURAGES AND SUPPORTS LOCAL RESILIENCY THROUGH THE PRODUCTION OF FOODS IN COMMUNITY GARDENS, ENCOURAGES AND SUPPORTS AGRICULTURAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP THROUGH CROSS SECTOR COLLABORATION WITH JOB AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATIONS, AND BRINGS TOGETHER FOOD PRODUCERS, AGRICULTURAL INDUSTRY PARTNERS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO FACILITATE LONG-TERM PLANNING AND COLLABORATION TO ADDRESS ONGOING COMMUNITY SELF-SUSTAINABILITY AND GROWTH.
