Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employees were exposed to a struck by hazards due to a collapsing wall during demolition work: a) During the demolition of a concrete block wall on or about 05/29/2018, employees were exposed to a struck by hazard, in that, during demolition, inspections by a competent person were not conducted as the work progressed to detect hazards resulting from the weakened or deteriorated wall, and workers were permitted to work where such a hazard existed without being corrected by shoring, bracing or other effective means and controlled access was not established to prevent unauthorized entry into the demolition work zone. |
