29 CFR 1910.178(l)(1)(i): 1910.178(l)(1)(i): The employer shall ensure that each powered industrial truck operator is competent to operate a powered industrial truck safely, as demonstrated by the successful completion of the training and evaluation specified in this paragraph (l). Training shall consist of a combination of formal instruction (e.g., lecture, discussion, interactive computer learning, video tape, written material), practical training (demonstrations performed by the trainer and practical exercises performed by the trainee), and evaluation of the operator's performance in the workplace. a) On or about August 17, 2018, at 9200 NW 25 Street, Doral, FL 33172, the employer allowed employees to operate powered industrial trucks without ensuring the employee had successfully completed all the training and evaluation as specified by paragraph (l): a powered industrial truck operator was allowed to operate a forklift (2002 Caterpillar GC25 LP Sit-Down Forklift; Serial# 4EM08258) at the site without having received any instruction/training from the owner's manual. b) On or about August 17, 2018, at 9200 NW 25 Street, Doral, FL 33172, the employer allowed employees to operate powered industrial trucks without ensuring the employee had successfully completed all the training and evaluation as specified by paragraph (l): a powered industrial truck operator was allowed to operate a forklift (2017 Yale NR040EBNL36TE119 Electric Narrow Aisle Stand-up Reach Truck; Serial# E815N02706R) at the site without having received practical hands-on training and/or evaluation of the operator's performance. |
