29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: For the Alro Metal Service Center facility at 12490 49th St. N, Clearwater, FL 33762, as observed on or about 04/09/2014. Employees operating a horizontal metal band saws were exposed to laceration hazards due to blade guards which did not cover the bottom cutting section of the blade. As observed, an employees' hands could contact the unused section of the cutting blade, and the blade was observed to extend below the guard. a) for band saw near the front, customer service section of the shop; and, b) for the band saw in the back section of the shop near the shear. Alro Metal Services Center was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard (29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1)), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 877039, citation number 1, item number 4a, and was affirmed as a final order on 08/12/2013 with respect to a workplace located at 12490 49th St. N, Clearwater, FL 33762. |
